Planning a trip to Southeastern Morocco requires understanding the dramatic seasonal climate of the Sahara Desert. Unlike coastal cities, the desert experiences significant temperature swings between seasons and even between day and night.
Autumn (October to November): The Golden Season
Autumn is widely considered the finest time to experience the Sahara. Daytime temperatures range from a comfortable 24°C to 28°C, making dune climbing and camel rides thoroughly enjoyable. Nights are pleasantly cool, and the date harvest in the Draa Valley is in full swing, filling local markets with sweet Medjool and Boufeggous dates.
Winter (December to February): Crisp Days & Crystal Skies
Winter brings sunny, mild days (18°C to 22°C) with vivid blue skies. However, desert winter nights can drop to 3°C to 7°C. Luxury desert camps provide cozy duvets, blankets, and campfire gatherings to keep you warm under the dazzling winter constellations.
Spring (March to May): Wild Desert Blooms & Warm Sun
Spring is another fantastic period with vibrant desert flora blooming after brief spring showers. Temperatures rise pleasantly into the high 20s. It is also an ideal time for multi-day camel caravans and landscape photography.
Summer (June to August): High Heat
Summer in the deep Sahara is intensely hot, often exceeding 42°C during mid-day. We recommend scheduling desert excursions primarily between September and May for maximum comfort and enjoyment.
